Publisher Krafton has just released details on the “season pass” for The Callisto Protocol, which includes locking some of its gruesome death animations behind a paywall, but also two additional game modes. The Callisto Protocol, on the other hand, is a single-player game you’re most likely to play once and that’s it. Since it’s a multiplayer game, we’ve come to accept this as normal because I suppose finding new ways to execute your opponents is now a personalization option tied to “premium” cosmetics. Call of Duty Warzone has “execution” animations locked behind its premium season passes. The games industry has continued to find more and more ways to nickel and dime players for content over the years, and locking new animations behind a paywall isn’t exactly news. If you want to release a paid story expansion, just do that and not section off a bunch of minor updates to these season passes. Regardless, I still find locking game modes behind a season pass for a single player game ridiculous considering most games these days are releasing these sort of things as free updates. The season pass does cost extra, but it seems to be offering a menagerie of content for the price.Striking Distance CEO, Glen Schofield, has taken to Twitter to clarify the season pass details, indicating that this content is not being withheld from the game and will be worked on in the new year. It simply says we'll "dig deeper into the horrifying secrets of The Callisto Protocol." Perhaps, we'll get some missions based on the adventures of Percy, the character Gwendoline Christie plays in the prequel podcast Helix Station. Krafton has been cryptic in the season pass' Steam store listing. Lastly, the story DLC is set to release sometime next year.It will also have 12 enemy death animations and the Engineer Skin Collection. The Riot Bundle is described to have a wave-based mode, which has you upgrading your weapons or creating new gunfire in between taking out rounds of enemies. The publisher Krafton says on the Steam store listing that " there are no second chances to escape Black Iron Prison or the horrors lurking beneath the surface of Callisto." This bundle also features 13 new death animations for the protagonist Jacob and a new Watchtower Skin collection. This will give you fewer health and ammo drops, and if you die, there's permadeath. The Contagion Bundle comes with a new difficulty mode: Contagion. It is an underground insurgency that is aligned against the United Jupiter Company. The Outer Way Skin Collection comes with the armour of the titled faction. The Callisto Protocol season pass includes: ![]() Included as part of the Digital Deluxe Edition of The Callisto Protocol or available separately, the season pass comes with a bunch of cosmetic content, in addition to new modes and story content. At the time of writing, there is currently no battle pass planned for The Callisto Protocol. What some may be mistaking the battle pass for is the season pass.
